In view of the recommendation of the Department of Health (DOH) to cancel public events and mass gatherings amid the continuing threat of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), the National Electrification Administration (NEA) strongly advised all electric cooperatives (ECs) to defer their planned/scheduled Annual General Membership Assemblies (AGMAs) and similar activities at a later date.
The decision was made following the recent declaration of a “State of Public Health Emergency throughout the Philippines” by virtue of Proclamation No. 922 signed by President Rodrigo Duterte, and the World Health Organization (WHO) officially recognizing COVID-19 as a global pandemic.
The NEA enjoins all EC Board of Directors and Management nationwide to fully cooperate and heed the advice of their local government and public health authorities as part of the continuing precautionary measures to reduce the risk of new COVID-19 cases and prevent its transmission to other communities.
The NEA, however, leaves it to the prudent evaluation of the EC Board of Directors and Management to proceed with their scheduled activities that will be attended only by a small crowd, provided they will exercise social distancing and other personal protective measures as recommended by the DOH and the WHO.
Thank you.
