NEA to hold solidarity run in celebration of 50th anniversary

The National Electrification Administration (NEA) is set to hold a solidarity fun run on
July 28, which will kick off a series of activities lined up in celebration of the agency’s
50th founding anniversary.
The fun run, dubbed as Golden Rush, will be spearheaded by NEA officials and
employees. The activity will be held at Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife in Quezon City
at 4 a.m.
NEA Administrator Edgardo Masongsong said the run aims to “commemorate in unity
the gains of the Rural Electrification Program in the past five decades through a
dynamic interaction among the key players of the program and the Energy industry.”
At least 500 participants are expected to join the solidarity run, which include
representatives from different electric cooperatives (ECs) nationwide and EC Allied
organizations.
Other participants are officials of several government agencies, including the
Department of Energy (DOE), the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), National
Power Corp. (NPC), and Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corp.
(PSALM), among others.
This year’s anniversary celebration will carry the theme “NEA@50: One with ECs and
MCOs for Sustainable Rural Development,” highlighting the agency and EC’ milestones,
including the symbolic switch-on of the 13 millionth consumer connection.
The occasion also coincides with the observance of the 10th National Electrification
Awareness Month (NEAM) under Proclamation Order No. 1743 signed on March 16,
2009.
The NEAM is celebrated annually every month of August in recognition of the significant
contributions of the electrification program in nation building. ###
